Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable changes:
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for players looking for alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are upset.
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and another details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
