The New Zealand heavyweight returned an adverse finding during a doping test conducted the very day of his 11th-round loss versus UK boxer Fabio Wardley.
The British boxer along with the New Zealander engaged in a thrilling encounter staged in the UK capital in late October to determine who would become WBO mandatory challenger facing reigning heavyweight king Ukrainian champion Usyk.
Joseph Parker was previously the primary candidate to face Usyk following stringing together a remarkable six wins in a row, however risked his mandatory challenger status at stake during the bout and experienced a stoppage in round eleven.
A standard screening conducted on Joseph Parker through the anti-doping organization the day of the match came back positive and now leaves the 36-year-old in a difficult position to clear his name.
The boxer's representatives issued an announcement declaring: "The anti-doping body informed all relevant parties about Parker returned an adverse finding following an anti-doping test carried out on October 25th. While the matter is investigated, no additional comment will be made at this time."
The New Zealand boxer was crowned heavyweight champion six years ago before he was defeated for his WBO belt through a points decision to Anthony Joshua in Wales 24 months later.
Joseph Parker remained a frequent visitor on British soil from that point, having eight matches in total in Britain and relocating to Ireland for training camps alongside esteemed mentor Andy Lee during this period.
Coached by Andy Lee, the boxer overcame his defeat in 2022 against British heavyweight Joyce to chalk up multiple wins positioning him at the front of the line to meet Usyk until he was defeated against Wardley.
Subsequent to Parker's sample showed an adverse finding on the day of the Wardley fight, reportedly involving cocaine, an inquiry into the findings is underway.
