Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua has been released from care, officials in Lagos announced on Wednesday night. The 36-year-old was involved in a car accident outside Lagos on the 29th of December, a devastating event that resulted in the deaths of two of his close associates.
The boxer had been receiving medical attention while healing from his light wounds, representatives confirmed on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced via a post online that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to leave and heal privately.
“The boxer and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two friends who passed away as they were being made ready for the journey back,” the official remarked.
The victims of the crash were named as Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. Omotoso added that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and deeply emotional over the loss of his two trusted companions.”
His release from the hospital comes as the global fight fans offered condolences for the champion in the wake of the heartbreaking incident.
