Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
