Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United only half a year after leading insulting songs aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has signed a contract with the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's seven-year spell with Leeds was ended by mutual consent this past summer.
Among Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading insulting songs regarding Wilder during the club’s success festivities this spring. Currently, the former England international will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to rescue the team he loves away from the relegation zone.
Both men had history before Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Everything appears has been resolved with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.
The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Bamford featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
