Fresh particulars have surfaced regarding the shocking demises of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday.
A source indicates referencing a person close to the family, a practitioner arriving for an appointment first raised the alarm after being unable to gain access the home. The practitioner then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.
Upon entering the home, Romy came upon her father's body. Accounts indicate she then left the home distraught, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. Her roommate who had gone with her promptly called 911. Subsequently, first responders found Michele Singer Reiner's body.
The police have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of premeditated murder, including the use of a dangerous weapon, said to be a knife. He is presently detained and is ineligible for bail.
The confidential informant challenged several initial details. They said that while Romy Reiner told emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a separate structure on the grounds, she did not identify him as a suspect at that time.
Furthermore disputed published suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "worried" about Nick's conduct in the weeks leading up to the incident. Instead the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
This refutation applies to accounts of alleged "erratic" conduct by Nick at a party hosted by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the tragedy. Although the source noted they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they said that claims of a "heated argument" between the two were inaccurate.
Per law enforcement officials, the medical examiner had yet to determine as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Preliminary accounts indicated the condition of their bodies implied they had been dead for a period of time.
Nick Reiner was arrested at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the family home. He was set to appear in court on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, stated his client had a medical issue and would not appear until no sooner than Wednesday.
