Alastair Cook's 766 runs by an Englishman on an Ashes tour is only bettered by cricket legend Wally Hammond
Brisbane is not a location providing the English team badly required hope for the Ashes
After defeat by the hosts at the series start, the visiting team must stir themselves for a trip to the famous Gabba, a stadium where the English haven't triumphed for decades

Cook's road to down under success started a year and a half before following the 2009 Ashes in England
Despite English victory, Cook scored under 25 per innings with just one score exceeding half-century

The English might have secured the urn in Perth, however Johnson to foreshadow the havoc he would cause four years later
Then came possibly England's finest day in Ashes history on Australian soil
In Melbourne, the 100,000-seater cathedral of sports down under, and on Boxing Day, the Australian team were dismissed for 98
"If Carlsberg did Boxing Days, that defined it. There was disbelief at the end of the day," says Cook
Motivated by purpose to secure the Ashes, the batsman performed brilliantly at the SCG
His score of 189 contributed to England's 644, their best score during Australian Tests
The uncertainty wasn't whether England would triumph the match and the Ashes, but the timing
"The atmosphere was incredible," says Cook
"After Tremlett dismissed Michael Beer to claim triumph, that was a time of complete happiness"
The batsman received top accolades
The remaining seven years of his Test career were illuminated by further accomplishments
Post-cricket career, he received a knighthood for cricket contributions
