The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast in the coming months, according to the production team.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but official word only arrived recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.

However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser suggested.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had so many fans watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."

He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

Cast Reactions

The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.

The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"

The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."

"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."

Show History

Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.

The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.

The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no plans for further series.

However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
