The former president’s family business accelerated its recruitment of foreign workers on temporary visas this year, while his government was placing obstacles for other companies wanting to do the identical, a report published Thursday claimed.
Based on data from the federal labor department, the business sought to hire at least nearly 200 overseas employees in 2025 for temporary positions at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, golf facilities and his winery in Virginia.
The quantity of applications for H-2A and H-2B visas covering staff including waitstaff, office assistants, housekeepers, kitchen staff and agricultural laborers was the highest ever submitted by the organization, and up from 121 in 2021, when his presidency ended.
It was also the fifth instance in 10 years that Trump had attempted to bring in more than 100 foreign employees for seasonal jobs at his Florida resort, according to available data.
The revelation coincides with a crackdown on legal immigration by his government that has involved the introduction of a substantial charge on H1-B visas; increased review of the actions of the millions of people who already hold American work permits; and tighter regulations for international scholars and journalists.
In total, the Trump Organization aimed to hire over 560 overseas workers over the period Trump has been in the White House, from his first term and during 2025.
Notably, Trump was criticized by some in the GOP this week for remarks defending the necessity for overseas employees when a business was unable to find people with “particular skills” to fill certain positions.
“You can’t just say a nation is coming in, going to spend $10bn to construct a facility, and going to take people off an unemployment line who haven’t worked in five years, and they’re going to start producing their missiles. It isn’t feasible that effectively,” he stated to a host after it was implied that overseas employees lower the pay of American employees.
The White House declined a request for response, and the Trump Organization did not provide an answer to an request for information.
