‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: Meg Ryan Posts Heartfelt Tribute to Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the deceased filmmaker Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the iconic rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA this past weekend.

“Oh how we will miss this man…” the actress posted on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy discovered her father deceased.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan continued. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

Family Members Issue a Message

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy shared a statement today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”

Colleagues and Friends Remember

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner with a statement shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” the statement said. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a critical and commercial success in 1989, making over $93m at the box office and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.

Reiner’s notable filmography comprised classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
